Honey facts that nobody knows!

 

What do you know about honey? Hmm… other than the fact that honey is produced by bees?  Actually there are a lots of facts that honey is not really known for! Let’s check it out!

1. LEAKED OUT? NOT PROBLEM!

 

Honey have a natural substance that is low in moisture - this makes honey a hostile environment for bacteria to grow. So if we keep honey in an airtight container, the expiration date would last to an eternal shelf life! The ancient people had done this from thousand years ago. Some reports say that honey found in Egyptian tombs is still edible to this date. Feels like you can invest it for your future generations!

2. FEW BEES = TONS OF HONEY

 

A typical beehive can produce anywhere from 13 to 45 kg of honey a year. To produce around one kg of honey, a colony of bees must collect nectar from approximately 2 million flowers and fly over 55,000 miles. That’s a lot of work for a small bee, isn’t it?

 

3. HONEY IS MEDICINAL

 

Do you know that honey is still used as a natural treatment for dandruff, stomach ulcers, and even seasonal allergies? It has been used since the ancient Mesopotamia!

 

4. TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD FROM TABLESPOONS

 

A bee can produces 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey over the course of its life. So roughly, two tablespoons of honey would be enough to fuel a bee’s entire flight around the world. Crazy!

 

5. NOT ALL BEES MAKE HONEY AND NOT ALL HONEY IS MADE BY BEES

 

There are thousands  species of bees on earth yet only some of them actually make honey. There is also a kind of honey that is made by Mexican honey wasp! But watch out, this honey might be poisonous because of the wasp bad habit to visit poisonous flowers.
